********************************************
The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joshua Law, visited the Planning Department (PlanD) today (July 12) to better understand the work and services of the department and to take the opportunity to meet its staff.

This is Mr Law's first departmental visit after assuming the post of the Secretary for the Civil Service. He will visit various departments to take a closer look at their operation and meet departmental management and staff representatives to step up mutual communication and enhance staff relations.

Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Thomas Chow, Mr Law first met with the Director of Planning, Mr Raymond Lee, and the directorate staff. He was briefed on how the PlanD prepares various types of town plans to guide the proper use and development of land.

Mr Law then toured the City Gallery to learn about various urban planning projects in Hong Kong. Managed by the Technical Services Division of the PlanD, City Gallery is the first planning and infrastructure gallery in Hong Kong to feature the city's major planning proposals and infrastructure projects as well as its future development outlook.

Mr Law also visited the "Hong Kong ∞ Impression" exhibition staged in the gallery. The exhibition showcases the concept of "Infinitely Hong Kong" and interactively presents how city planning and infrastructure development can promote Hong Kong's sustainability.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Law met with staff representatives of various grades at a tea gathering to exchange views on matters that concern them. He praised colleagues for their dedication and efforts, and encouraged them to continue to provide high-quality, efficient and professional services to build Hong Kong into a liveable, competitive and sustainable Asia's world city.
