Senior appointment in Police Force (with photo)

     Approval has been given for the appointment of the Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ms Chiu Wai-yin, as Deputy Commissioner of Police with effect from July 8, 2017, upon the retirement of Deputy Commissioner (Management), Mr Chau Kwok-leung.

     Brief biographical notes on Ms Chiu Wai-yin are set out below:

     Ms Chiu, 54 years old, joined the Hong Kong Police as an Inspector in 1983. She was promoted to Senior Superintendent in 2002, Chief Superintendent in 2006, Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2011 and Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2014. She is currently the Director of Personnel and Training.

     Ms Chiu has served in a wide spectrum of posts encompassing criminal intelligence, narcotics, international liaison, training, divisional, district and regional command as well as operation policy and support at headquarter level.

     At the rank of Superintendent, Ms Chiu was a core member of the Implementation Team for the Security Arrangements of the Handover Ceremony and the World Bank / International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings held in Hong Kong in 1997 and was responsible for media liaison and related security matters.
