President Xi visits Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Link Road and Hong Kong International Airport (with photos/videos)

     President Xi Jinping today (July 1) , accompanied by the Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, inspected and learned more about the progress of the major infrastructure projects at Chek Lap Kok, including the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Hong Kong Link Road (HKLR) and the Three-runway System (3RS) project of the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). He was briefed on how the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, through investment in infrastructure, is enhancing its connections within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area as well as with the rest of Mainland, and on the strategy of strengthening Hong Kong as an international and regional logistics hub.

     President Xi travelled through the Hong Kong Link Road (HKLR) Scenic Hill Tunnel, which was connected in May this year, to inspect the HZMB HKLR. On-site briefings were given by the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Frank Chan Fan, on the Hong Kong section of the HZMB, in particular the features and challenges of the HKLR. President Xi noted that the works of the Hong Kong section would be completed to be ready for commissioning by the end of this year.

     After visiting the HKLR, President Xi proceeded to the HKIA Tower. The Chairman of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA), Mr Jack So, briefed President Xi on the importance of the HKIA as an international and regional aviation hub and described the progress of the 3RS Project. He also spoke on the strategic role of the HKIA in connecting the Mainland of China with the rest of the world and in taking forward the Belt and Road Initiative. Afterwards, Mr Chan introduced to President Xi the progress and characteristics of the HZMB Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities as well as the Tuen Mun - Chek Lap Kok Link.
