The following is issued on behalf of the Transport Advisory Committee:
 
     The Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) was briefed today (June 29) on the outcome of the Public Transport Strategy Study (PTSS).
　
     Members of the TAC noted that the Government had completed the PTSS, which commenced at end-2014 and lasted for two and a half years. The PTSS was a review on the roles and positioning of public transport services other than heavy rail. Sixty-seven measures were recommended to enhance the arrangement of the public transport system.
 
     The TAC Chairman, Mr Larry Kwok, said, "The Government has adopted the public transport-oriented strategy with railways as the backbone of the public transport system. This policy is the cornerstone of the public transport services. Other public transport services are indispensable to supplement the heavy rail service and provide more choices for passengers."
　
     Mr Kwok said, "Members welcome the measures recommended under the PTSS and are of the view that the implementation of these measures will help reinforce the important roles played by public transport services other than heavy rail and promote their complementarity and long-term healthy development. This will in turn ensure that the public will continue to be able to enjoy a highly efficient public transport network with comprehensive coverage and diversified services. Our public transport services will also become more convenient and environmentally friendly, while promoting 'Transport for All'."
