The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah, joined the home visits under the "Celebrations for All" project in Sha Tin District this afternoon (June 19). He visited three families in Sun Chui Estate to learn more about their living conditions and needs. He also distributed gift packs to them and extended his warm regards.

The "Celebrations for All" project is an event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Through the home visits, volunteers take the initiative to get in touch with the elderly and the underprivileged in different districts, and share the joy of the anniversary with them.

Mr Lau thanked the groups organising the home visits and volunteers participating in the event. The home visit programmes in Sha Tin District are supported by 59 organisations, with about 2,700 volunteers extending love and care to more than 20,000 households of elderly people and families in need in the district.

He also said that the HKSAR Government has organised the 20th anniversary celebration activities by adhering to existing policy objectives of promoting cultural and creative industries, caring for the underprivileged and sustaining economic growth. Various celebration activities have been launched.

Mr Lau highlighted two major exhibitions jointly organised with the Palace Museum to be opened soon, which are "Celebrating Imperial Birthdays in the Qing Dynasty" and "Yangxindian Exhibition from Palace Museum". Major sports events will also be presented, including the World Snooker Master Challenge 2017 in July.

Officials participating in the home visits today included the Under Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Florence Hui; the Director of Home Affairs, Miss Janice Tse; Deputy Director of Home Affairs Mr Patrick Li; Assistant Director of Home Affairs Ms Anna Chor; the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Paul Cheng; the Political Assistant to the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Caspar Tsui; and the District Officer (Sha Tin), Ms Amy Chan.
