Briefing sessions on Innovation and Technology Fund for Better Living attract 500 organisation representatives (with photo)
******************************************************************************************
The Innovation and Technology Bureau (ITB) conducted four briefing sessions on June 14 and 15 to introduce the operation and application procedures of the Innovation and Technology Fund for Better Living (FBL). Some 500 representatives from more than 300 organisations attended.

The objectives, eligibility, project requirements, funding principles, application procedures, as well as assessment criteria were explained in detail at the briefing sessions. The ITB also addressed questions from the representatives.

The applicant organisations should generally be non-governmental organisations subvented by the Social Welfare Department, public bodies, professional bodies and trade associations. They are encouraged to partner with research and development institutions or technology enterprises in developing projects. The project deliverables can be in the form of a mobile app, a device, an equipment, a tool, a software, a service, etc.

The FBL Assessment Panel, comprising members from different sectors, will assess an application based on the benefits brought by the project to the daily living of the public at large or specific community groups, its innovation and technology content, feasibility and sustainability, financial aspects, as well as technical and management capability of the applicant organisation, etc.

A spokesman for the ITB said, "The FBL is a groundbreaking programme to promote application of local innovation for the good of the local community. The large number of organisation representatives joining these two days' briefing sessions is encouraging and we look forward to receiving submission of innovative projects which can bring benefits to the public very soon."

The FBL, launched on May 31, is open for applications all year round. It funds projects which make use of innovation and technology to improve people's daily living or benefit specific community groups. Each approved project will be granted up to 90 per cent of the total project cost or $5 million, whichever is the less. Details on the FBL are available on the ITB website (www.itb.gov.hk/en/fbl).
