FS conducts home visits in Sai Kung District under "Celebrations for All" project (with photos/video)
******************************************************************************************
The Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan, visited elderly households and needy families in Sai Kung District under the "Celebrations for All" project today (June 14).

Accompanied by the Assistant District Officer (Sai Kung), Mr Peter Kwok, and the Chairman of the Sai Kung District Council, Mr George Ng, as well as volunteers, Mr Chan visited three families in Kwun Mun Fishermen Village and Mang Kung Uk to learn about their living conditions and their needs. He also distributed gift packs to them to share the joy of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Poverty alleviation, care for the elderly and support for the disadvantaged are at the top of the current-term Government's agenda, and the Government has been investing heavily in these aspects. For the 2017-18 financial year, the estimated recurrent expenditure on education, social welfare and healthcare exceeds $210 billion in total, accounting for about 60 per cent of government recurrent spending. The recurrent expenditure in these three areas recorded a cumulative increase of 43 per cent over the past five years.

Mr Chan said that through the visits, he hoped to share with the disadvantaged the joy of the anniversary and extend his warmest wishes to them. The social welfare and community organisations in Sai Kung will continue the home visits and express care and concern to over 7,000 elderly families and over 5,000 families with special needs.

He thanked the participating volunteers and encouraged them to keep on supporting those in need in the community for building a caring and inclusive society.
