The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today (May 31) announced its approval of the 19th batch of applications for the trial of green innovative transport technologies under the Pilot Green Transport Fund (the Fund).

Seven newly approved applications are for the trial of five hybrid light goods vehicles, three hybrid medium goods vehicles and two hybrid single-deck buses, involving a total subsidy of about $6.9 million. The applications were from:

     Hang Po Transportation Company Limited
     Pharmason Company Limited
     Shing Hing Chemical Company Limited
Tong Shun Hing Poultry (HK) Co., Limited
     Wah Kwok Transportation Company Limited
Wai Men Yuen Gardening & Engineering Co. Limited

The latest approval brings the total number of trials being pursued under the Fund to 101 for testing three electric taxis, three electric light buses, 11 electric single-deck buses, 51 electric light goods vehicles, 38 hybrid light goods vehicles, 23 hybrid medium goods vehicles, 11 hybrid public light buses, two hybrid single-deck buses, one bus solar air-conditioning system, four bus electric inverter air conditioning systems, and the adoption of a diesel-electric propulsion system and a seawater scrubber on a ferry, amounting to a total subsidy of about $93 million.

At present, three electric taxis, two electric light buses, nine electric single-deck buses, 46 electric light goods vehicles, 28 hybrid light goods vehicles, 17 hybrid medium goods vehicles, five hybrid public light buses, one bus solar air-conditioning system, four bus electric inverter air-conditioning systems, and the adoption of a diesel-electric propulsion system and a seawater scrubber on a ferry subsidised by the Fund have begun trial. Among them, three electric taxis, eight electric single-deck buses, 32 electric light goods vehicles, 18 hybrid light goods vehicles, 11 hybrid medium goods vehicles, four hybrid public light buses, and one bus solar air-conditioning system have completed their two-year trials. Their interim and final trial reports have been uploaded to the Fund's website for public information.

The Government set up the $300 million Fund in March 2011 to encourage the public transport sector to test green innovative transport technologies. The Fund is open for applications from public transport operators, charitable and non-profit making organisations providing services to clients, and goods vehicle operators. The technologies for trial include alternative-fueled vehicles, after-treatment emission reduction devices or fuel saving devices related to transport activities, and conversion of in-use conventional vehicles to alternative-fueled vehicles. Transport operators may apply to the Fund to try out different green products subject to a maximum subsidy of $9 million for each application and $12 million in total.
