Police strive to ensure safety of Prime Minster of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan

     Prime Minster of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mr Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, will arrive in Hong Kong on May 16 for a three-day official visit.

     The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, will meet with the Prime Minister on May 17 at Government House.

     "In view of the current heightened international terrorist situation, Police will enhance security measures in order to ensure the personal safety of the Prime Minister," a Police spokesman said today (May 14).

     "Appropriate protective coverage including personal and traffic escort will be provided to the Prime Minister throughout his stay in Hong Kong. Temporary traffic and pedestrian access diversion may occur which may cause inconvenience to members of the public and other road users.

     "We appeal to the public for their understanding and patience and to follow the advice given by police officers. Motorists are also urged to take heed of traffic signs and follow the instructions of the Traffic Police at scene.

     "While striving to ensure a safe visit of the Prime Minister, Police will keep inconvenience to the public to a minimum," the spokesman said.
