The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The Hospital Authority (HA) organised the "Organ Donation Promotion Campaign Thank the Volunteer Event" this morning (May 7) in Hong Kong Disneyland to commend the volunteers who have rendered their support to the organ donation promotion campaign. The officiating guests at the event included the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man; the HA Chairman, Professor John Leong and Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin, and Managing Director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Mr Samuel Lau.

Speaking at the ceremony of the event, Professor John Leong expressed gratitude to the volunteers for their enthusiastic support to the campaign. They have made valuable contributions to the over 200 promotion booths which have been set up in public hospitals, clinics and partner organisations from July to December last year (2016), where HA staff, visitors and community partners were encouraged to sign up as organ donors on the spot via the QR Code created by HA.  Since July 2016, there are more than 46,000 visits to "Centralised Organ Donation Register" through the QR Code.

To support the organ donation promotion campaign initiated by the Government, HA has organised a wide range of activities from July to December last year to help promulgate the messages as well as foster the positive atmosphere for organ donation to the public via various platforms, including arranging media interviews for Organ Donation Coordinators (ODCs) and donor families as well as organ recipients, contributing articles to newspapers, magazines and web media, and also producing a series of publicity and education videos, promotional stickers and pamphlets to disseminate the message of organ donation in the community. A total of six seminars and talks have been organised for the staff of our community partner organisations to enhance their understanding on organ donation. Social media platforms have also been widely deployed to help promote different messages and further raise public awareness.

To recognize their contributions, the volunteers each received a complimentary ticket generously donated by Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. Also speaking at the ceremony, Mr Samuel Lau recognised the volunteers' great efforts in serving the community. He said Hong Kong Disneyland is dedicated to supporting volunteer services and is delighted to donate tickets to the amazing volunteers who helped the HA by promoting organ donation. He also invited them to spend a magical day at the Park. In addition, he showed appreciation to representatives from the HA who gave a lecture to resort cast members and assisted them in setting up a road show to promote the donation program.

Over 300 volunteers participated in today's "Organ Donation Promotion Campaign Thank the Volunteer Event" and a group photo was taken with the officiating guests following the ceremony.
