LegCo Subcommittee to Follow Up Issues Relating to the Three-runway System at the Hong Kong International Airport observes three-runway system reclamation works (with photos)

  The Legislative Council (LegCo) Subcommittee to Follow Up Issues Relating to the Three-runway System (3RS) at the Hong Kong International Airport conducted a visit to observe 3RS reclamation works today (May 5) to better understand its construction progress.
 
  Members arrived at the Tung Chung Development Pier this morning and took a boat trip to observe 3RS reclamation works area with the company of the Under Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Yau Shing-mu, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA), Mr Fred Lam. Members received a briefing on 3RS reclamation works by the representatives of the AA during the boat trip. 
 
  Members then boarded the barge and observed how deep cement mixing method was used for non-dredge reclamation from a close distance. Members expressed concerns about the extent of reclamation, filling materials used as well as the environmental and ecological impact of the works.

  Members participating in the visit included the Chairman of the Subcommittee, Mr Wong Ting-kwong; the Deputy Chairman, Mr Jeremy Tam; Subcommittee members, Mr Leung Yiu-chung, Mr Paul Tse, Mr Yiu Si-wing, Dr Lo Wai-kwok, Mr Chu Hoi-dick and Dr Yiu Chung-yim.
