Insurance Authority welcomes appointments of senior executives
**************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Insurance Authority:

The Insurance Authority today (May 5) welcomed the Government's appointments of Mr John Leung Chi-yan as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and four Executive Directors to the Authority.

"We extend our warmest welcome to Mr Leung and his executive team which represents a good mix of existing regulatory talents and veterans from the insurance industry. They will certainly bring a wide spectrum of relevant professional knowledge and expertise which would be invaluable to the Insurance Authority, especially in its setting-up stage. I am certain that they will continue to collaborate closely with all stakeholders, including industry practitioners, to build a creditable and efficient regulator," the Chairman of the Insurance Authority, Dr Moses Cheng, said.

Dr Cheng added, "Following extensive executive search, the Authority has not been able to identify a suitable candidate for the CEO post. Mr Leung's appointment will help ensure a smooth migration from the existing regulatory regime to the new one. It will also allow more time for the Authority to conduct another round of executive search. I am sure that with Mr Leung's proven credentials, the Authority will meet the challenges ahead and rising public expectations."
