French treasures, sport and hiking all part of the 20th anniversary celebrations (with photos)

     Treasures from the famous Louvre Museum in Paris are now on show in Hong Kong – a major exhibition being staged this year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
 
     The exhibition "Inventing le Louvre: From Palace to Museum over 800 Years" is being held at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum until July 24.
 
     Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and the world-renowned Louvre Museum, the exhibition showcases more than 130 masterworks from all the Louvre's departments including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and tapestries.
 
     Much-loved works on show include Saint Sebastian Bound for Martyrdom, and the Equestrian Statue of Louis XIV as a Roman Emperor, and Rinaldo in the Enchanted Forest.
 
     Admission is $20, with a concessionary rate of $10. Groups of 20 or more can obtain a 30 per cent discount. For more information, www.heritagemuseum.gov.hk.

     An action-packed "Sea Parade and Open Water Rescue Show" will be the highlight at the 2017 Hong Kong Water Safety Day and the 20th Hong Kong Beach Games Championships and Life Guard Grand Parade.
 
     It will be held at Repulse Bay Beach from 9am until 5pm tomorrow (May 1).
 
     The rescue show is a joint effort by various government departments and local associations to mark the 20th anniversary.

     Members of the public are welcome to attend and participate in different activities including a Water Safety Swim, Hong Kong Life Guard Grand Parade, Beach Games Championships, and Water Safety Fun-Fair booths.
 
     The event aims to raise awareness about water safety prior to the start of the peak summer swimming and beach season.

     The 6th Hong Kong Games (HKG), organised by the Sports Commission, is under way!
 
     This week, members of the public can support competitors in sports events including badminton, basketball, futsal, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.
 
     All competitions will be held at Leisure and Cultural Services Department venues, and admission is free.
 
     For badminton, the individual event will be held on May 6 at Smithfield Sports Centre, while quarter finals and finals of the team event will take place at Kowloon Park Sports Centre on May 4 and 7.
 
     The quarter finals and finals of the Jockey Club Futsal Competition will be held at the Ma On Shan Sports Centre on May 1 and 6.

     The Tsing Yi Rural Committee welcomes one and all to the "Kwai Tsing District Arts and Cultural Fun Day in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR". It will be staged on May 6 at the football pitch of the Tsing Yi Athletic Association.
 
     Fun activities for all ages include folk art performances (including operatic excerpts, juggling and magic), an inflatable bed and traditional snack booths.
 
     Schools and non-government organisations will also set up booths to provide entertainment such as portrait drawing, henna art, fingerprint painting and leather workshop.

     "Harmony Community under the Lion Rock" is a hiking event organised by the Kowloon Federation of Associations on May 7. A launching ceremony will take place at Tsz Wan Shan Estate Central Playground at 9.30am before the hike begins.
 
     Lion Rock symbolises the "can-do" and "mutual help" spirit of Hong Kong people, and this event aims to build and symbolise unity and harmony in Hong Kong.
 
     The seven-kilometre hike sets off from Tsz Wan Shan Estate Central Playground and heads along Tsz Wan Shan Road, Shatin Pass Road and Jat's Incline before finishing at Ngau Chi Wan Street.
 
     The event is free and suitable for all ages. Participants are reminded to wear suitable clothing (e.g. sportswear) and bring along sunscreen and water. More details at klnfas.hk/tc/index.

     To share the joy of the 20th anniversary, the HKSAR Government is joining hands with different sectors to organise a wide variety of activities and events under the theme "Together·Progress·Opportunity".
 
     Altogether, more than 600 events and activities will be staged by the Government and different sectors until the end of 2017.
