Hong Kong Customs combats sale of infringing party glasses (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs seized seven pieces of suspected infringing party glasses and arrested two persons at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) today (April 29).

     Customs earlier received information alleging that infringing party glasses were displayed for sale at exhibition booths of the Hong Kong Gifts and Premium Fair held at the HKCEC. During the operation, seven suspected infringing party glasses were seized from a booth. One male director and one saleslady, aged 59 and 42 respectively, were arrested. Investigation is ongoing.

     Under the Copyright Ordinance, any person who possesses an infringing copy of a copyright work with a view to selling it commits an offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $50,000 per infringing copy and imprisonment for four years.
