Freezing of two income limits of Work Incentive Transport Subsidy Scheme
************************************************************************
As announced on April 3 this year, the income and asset limits of the Work Incentive Transport Subsidy (WITS) Scheme for household-based applications from households of two to five persons as well as the asset limits for (i) individual-based/one-person household-based applications and (ii) household-based applications from households of six persons or above, detailed in the Annex, have been adjusted starting from the claim month of February this year.  Applicants who become eligible under the new limits may apply in August 2017 at the earliest for the six-month subsidy from February to July 2017.

Under the existing annual adjustment mechanism of the WITS Scheme, the income limits for groups (i) and (ii) above would need to be adjusted downward with reference to the median monthly domestic household income in the third quarter of 2016.  After consultation with the Legislative Council, this announces the freezing of the income limits for these two groups in the annual adjustment exercise for 2017 as a special one-off arrangement.  The income limits for these two groups effective from the claim month of February 2017 are shown in the Annex.

For applications under groups (i) and (ii) above with claim periods straddling February 2017, following the announcement today (April 28), the Labour Department (LD) will forthwith process the claim months of February 2017 onwards in accordance with the applicable income limits.

Enquiries about the new limits of the WITS Scheme can be made at its 24-hour hotline 2717 1771 (handled by 1823) and enquiry counters of the WITS Division of the LD at Unit 1225, 12/F, Kowloonbay International Trade & Exhibition Centre, 1 Trademart Drive, Kowloon Bay.  Details of the Scheme are also available at the LD's homepage (www.labour.gov.hk).
