Secretary for Justice to visit Xian

     The Secretary for Justice, Mr Rimsky Yuen, SC, will visit Xian from tomorrow (April 22) to April 24 to attend the conference on mutual legal assistance on civil and commercial matters between the Mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) co-organised by the Supreme People's Court (SPC) and the Department of Justice.

     The theme of the conference is to review the development of mutual legal assistance on civil and commercial matters between the Mainland and the HKSAR in the past 20 years and to explore the way forward. Mr Yuen will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the event.

     The conference will address issues including the mutual legal assistance on recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and judgments in civil and commercial matters between the two jurisdictions, as well as the mutual legal assistance on service of judicial documents and taking of evidence in civil and commercial matters.

     During his stay in Xian, Mr Yuen will meet with the Executive Vice President of the SPC, Mr Shen Deyong, and other officials to exchange views on matters of mutual interest and to visit court facilities.

     Mr Yuen will return to Hong Kong in the afternoon of April 24.
