Update on cluster of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus cases in Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) cases in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the spokesperson for Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) made the following announcement today (April 18):

     In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, the hospital has performed enhanced surveillance and one more 10-day-old baby boy was confirmed as an MRSA carrier without clinical symptoms. The baby has been discharged.

     QEH will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the ward. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
