The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) performed a concert in the Seoul Arts Center in Korea today (April 16).

Supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Tokyo (HKETO Tokyo), the concert was the first stop of the HK Phil's five-city international tour in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

Speaking at a reception before the concert, the Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative (Tokyo), Ms Shirley Yung, said that the concert was one of the series of 20th anniversary celebration events in Korea.

"As the largest symphony orchestra in Hong Kong, the HK Phil not only enriches the cultural life of music lovers in Hong Kong, but also acts as our cultural ambassador to promote arts and cultural exchange outside Hong Kong," Ms Yung said.

After today's concert in Seoul, the HK Phil tour will continue with concerts in Osaka (April 18), Singapore (May 1), Melbourne (May 4) and Sydney (May 5).

The HK Phil is a major performing arts group in Hong Kong and is recognised as Asia's foremost classical orchestra. It presents over 150 concerts for an audience of 200 000 annually.
