The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London (London ETO) brought Hong Kong music talent to the fore as it supported two  Musicus Fest concerts in Finland on April 6 to 7 (Finland time).

The two concerts in Kauniainen and Espoo were organised by Hong Kong's Musicus Society along with Espoo's Tapiola Sinfonietta. The concerts formed part of London ETO's programme of events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The Kauniainen concert on April 6 was performed by a string quartet from the Tapiola Sinfonietta and a Chinese music ensemble with four musicians from the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. The concert featured the European premieres of works by two young Hong Kong composers – Jeff Leung and Denise Mei Yan Hofmann.

The Espoo concert on April 7 brought to the audience another night of music of strong Chinese flavour, featuring internationally renowned musicians from Hong Kong including cellist Trey Lee and pianists Rachel Cheung and Colleen Lee.

Speaking at a reception hosted by the London ETO preceding the Espoo concert, Acting Director General of the London ETO Willy Tsoi said, "With a rich cultural heritage and a unique East-meets-West character, Hong Kong offers a blend of art and creativity alongside trade and commerce. The very gifted musicians from the Musicus Society are indeed excellent examples of the kind of world-class music talent that Hong Kong nurtures."

Founded in 2010 as a registered charity under the vision of cellist Trey Lee, the Musicus Society aims to promote music and its education through cross-cultural collaborations. The group has performed widely around the world.
