******************************************************************************************
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) announced today (April 3) the latest progress of the follow-up action on the escalator incident that happened at Langham Place in Mong Kok on March 25.

In the wake of the incident, the EMSD immediately required relevant registered escalator contractors to conduct special inspections of all the escalators in Hong Kong with a vertical rise of 15 meters or above for public safety. All the special inspections have now been completed with no abnormality found.

Also, the EMSD requested Otis Elevator Company (HK) Limited (i.e. the escalator contractor of the Langham Place escalators) to conduct special inspections of all Otis escalators in Hong Kong within a month. The EMSD will scrutinise its inspection plan and conduct checks on site.

The EMSD is continuing an in-depth investigation of the escalator incident at Langham Place, including examination of the incident report submitted by the contractor. The investigation is expected to complete in two months.
