Transcript of remarks by CE-elect after visit to Kowloon City (with photos/video)
***************************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Chief Executive-elect, Mrs Carrie Lam, at a media session after her visit to Kowloon City this afternoon (March 27):

Reporter: How do you feel after visiting these different districts, and why do you think that it's so important to meet the people before meeting with the Liaison Office?

Chief Executive-elect: Well, I have done visits to three regions in a mere four hours. This was a very short visit, but I hope to begin my duty as the CE-elect with this new style of governance, that we really need to reach out more to the people of Hong Kong and listen to their views, their feelings and emotions so that we could have better governance and we could formulate policies that would respond more pertinently to the aspirations of the people. To be very honest, I feel very encouraged by this four-hour visit because the great majority of people whom I have met were very appreciative of the work that I have done in the past. And more importantly, they said that they put their trust in me, so they want me really to do more good things for Hong Kong.

As far as the visit to the Liaison Office is concerned, I have said that there are certain protocol things that I need to do in my position as the Chief Executive-elect, so earlier this morning I have called on the three important institutions in Hong Kong's political system, that is the Chief Executive, the Acting Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal and the President of the Legislative Council. And under "one country, two systems", there are three Central Authorities institutions in Hong Kong, so I think my office is now arranging for me to call upon the Central People's Government’s Liaison Office, the Hong Kong Garrison of the People's Liberation Army as well as the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Thank you very much.
