***************************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, at a media session after meeting the Chief Executive-elect, Mrs Carrie Lam, at the Chief Executive's Office this morning (March 27):

Good morning. I have just had a very good meeting with Mrs Carrie Lam. I congratulated her again on her successful Chief Executive election.

The CE Election yesterday was conducted in accordance with the Basic Law, the relevant decisions of the National People's Congress Standing Committee and the election laws of Hong Kong. It demonstrated once again the successful implementation of the principle of "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong" with a high degree of autonomy.

One of the most important tasks for the rest of my term is to ensure a smooth transition of government and therefore my meeting with Mrs Lam this morning to discuss the transition programme.

To support the CE-elect in the preparation for the new term Government in the next three months, we have established the Office of the CE-elect. The Office has formally started work today.

Over the next few months, my team and I will give the CE-elect the best possible support, and my colleagues will work closely with the CE-elect's Office to bring about the smoothest transition possible.

According to the Basic Law, the Chief Executive is not only the head of the SAR Government. He or she is also the head of the Special Administrative Region. The position of the Chief Executive carries great responsibilities. I call on the whole community to fully support the new Chief Executive and the new Government and work together to realise the potential for a better Hong Kong. Thank you.
