The Logo Design Competition for Development and Conservation of Lantau, organised by the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD), was concluded successfully at an award presentation ceremony held today (March 18). The competition was well received, with more than 300 entries.

Officiating at the ceremony, the Project Manager of the Hong Kong Island and Islands Development Office of the CEDD, Mr Robin Lee, said that the overall direction of planning for Lantau is "development in the north, conservation for the south". The Government is actively pursuing short, medium and long term measures on economic, housing, social, conservation, recreation and tourism developments on Lantau, aiming to capitalise on Lantau's geographical advantages and strategic infrastructure in the vicinity to foster the sustainable development of Hong Kong.

Mr Lee said, "The Government also aims to create an ideal living space on Lantau while emphasising and strengthening nature and cultural conservation, and maintaining the ecological environment balance. Through the provision of recreational facilities, and housing and infrastructure developments, Lantau will bring new opportunities and become an ideal place for people and nature to blend in with each other."

He said that the quality of the entries was remarkable, with diversified elements and styles reflecting the participants' expectations on the future development of Lantau. They were creative, impressive and fully demonstrated the planning vision of "Balancing Development and Conservation for Lantau".

The competition was held from November 7 to December 9, 2016, with about 280 entries received in the Open Group and about 80 entries in the Student Group. A grand prize and 10 merit prizes were awarded in each group. A roving exhibition of the winning entries will be held from March 20 to April 30. The list of winners and details of the exhibition are available on the competition website (www.landac.hk/logo_competition).

Other officiating guests were the Deputy Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Vincent Mak; the Chairman of the Islands District Council and Non-official Member of the Lantau Development Advisory Committee, Mr Chow Yuk-tong; the Deputy Chairperson of the Public Relations and Promotion Subcommittee of the Lantau Development Advisory Committee, Dr Kenneth Chu; and Assistant Professor (Advertising Design), School of Design, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Dr Vincie Lee.
