Territory-wide operation to combat illegal parking
**************************************************

Police yesterday (March 15) concluded a one-week territory-wide operation targeting illegal parking and offences which obstruct traffic flow.

During the operation, more than 42,000 fixed penalty tickets (FPT) were issued, including 722 FPTs issued near bus stops, and 30 vehicles were towed away.

A Police spokesman said that the operation targeted inconsiderate driving behaviours which might cause accident and impede traffic flow, with a view to improving driving attitude of road users.

Police will continue to take stringent enforcement actions against illegal parking throughout the territory. FPTs will be issued without prior warning and vehicles causing serious obstruction or danger to other road users will be towed away. Owners of towed vehicles are required to claim their vehicles at the Police Vehicle Pound and pay a towing fee and storage charge.

He appealed to road users to drive safely, and be considerate and respect the rights of other road users.

The Police will continue to enhance publicity and education to raise public awareness of road safety. For more road safety information, please visit the Police website: www.police.gov.hk/ppp_en/05_traffic_matters/enforcement.html.
