SED to visit Hainan to promote student exchange activities
**********************************************************

The Secretary for Education (SED), Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, will visit Hainan this Friday (March 10) to exchange views on education issues with officials of the province.

Mr Ng will meet with officials of the Education Department of Hainan Province to learn more about the province's latest development in education and other aspects. He will also introduce Hong Kong's education policy and measures, and explore the feasibility of extending the Mainland Exchange Programme for students to Hainan.

Located on the Maritime Silk Road, Hainan Province has a number of coastal cities which are similar to Hong Kong. Its rapid development, particularly in the areas of tourism and environmental conservation, can provide invaluable exchange and learning opportunities for Hong Kong students.

Mr Ng has all along been encouraging school sponsoring bodies to organise exchange activities for students to broaden their horizons. Invited by Pok Oi Hospital, Mr Ng will be the honorary head of a study tour to Hainan and join over 20 students from secondary schools and post-secondary institutions in its activities, including visits to Hainan University and the Hainan Planning Exhibition Hall.

Accompanying Mr Ng on his visit to Hainan will be the Principal Assistant Secretary for Education (Professional Development and Training), Mr Benjamin Yung. They will return to Hong Kong this Saturday afternoon (March 11).

During Mr Ng's absence, the Under Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, will be the Acting SED.
