Transcript of remarks by S for S after FCC meeting
***************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, at a media session at Central Government Offices, Tamar, after the Fight Crime Committee meeting this afternoon (February 27):

Reporter: As the security chief, do you think the Police need to apologise to the public for the seven cops case? Also, there are suggestions for legislation on insulting the Police? Do you see a need on that?

Secretary for Security: You asked two questions. As we all know, the case concerned is under appeal and the legal proceeding is not yet finalised. So it would appear not proper to give any comment at this stage. Regarding your second question, all public officers who carry out their duties, including disciplined service officers or/and non-disciplined service officers, they are serving the people of Hong Kong and they should be respected. We notice that there are civil servants' associations who have come out and requested the authorities concerned to consider whether we should enact laws. We do not have such plans at this stage, but we are open-minded and our minds are not closed. We will listen carefully to all the views expressed on this issue.
