The following is issued on behalf of the Council for Sustainable Development:

The prize presentation ceremony of the Sustainable Development Promotion Award for Students of Higher Education Institutions (SDPA) was held today (February 26) to commend students for their efforts in promoting the concept of sustainable development and spreading the message to the community.

Launched by the Council for Sustainable Development (SDC) in 2016, the SDPA aims to raise the awareness of sustainable development among youngsters and encourage them to engage in sustainable practices in their daily lives and help spread the messages to their peers, families and the community.

The competition consisted of two phases: the Proposal Phase and the Implementation Phase. At the Proposal Phase, the best five entries with proposals for applying sustainable practices were selected as recipients of the Proposal Award. The awardees then proceeded to implement their proposals and the teams successfully implemented their proposals were given the Implementation Award. The best overall performer was also presented with the Outstanding Project Award.

At today's prize presentation ceremony, the awardees gave brief presentations on their projects and shared with other participants their ideas and experience in running the projects. Concepts brought up by the award-winning proposals included vegetable bouquets, a knowledge vending machine, a second-hand exchange platform, organic farming and low-carbon local tourism. The list of awardees and information on their projects will be available at www.enb.gov.hk/en/susdev/public/sdpa.htm.

The officiating guests at the ceremony today were members of the Education and Publicity Sub-committee of the SDC Professor Nora Tam, Dr Thomas Yau and Mr Stephen Wong.
