Reclamation works in northeast Tung Chung authorised
****************************************************
     The Chief Executive in Council, after considering the objections received, has authorised the proposed reclamation works within an area of approximately 200 hectares of foreshore and seabed to the northeast of Tung Chung for the Tung Chung New Town Extension (TCNTE). The notice (www.gld.gov.hk/egazette/pdf/20172108/egn20172108988.pdf) was gazetted today (February 24).

     The works include construction of approximately 4.9 kilometres of seawall; filling of the seabed to form approximately 129 hectares of land for the TCNTE and construction of Road P1 (Tung Chung - Tai Ho Section), joining the North Lantau Highway near Tai Ho; and demolition of the existing Pak Mong Pier and re-provisioning of landing steps in new seawall nearby.

     The TCNTE is a key land supply initiative of the Government for meeting the future housing, economic and social development needs of Hong Kong. The reclaimed land will provide about 40 800 flats for a planned population of about 118 900.

     The notice of authorisation together with its related plan are posted near the site. The notice and the plan can also be seen at the following locations/website:

* Lands Department Survey and Mapping Office (23/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, Hong Kong) (where copies can be purchased on order);
