CSSA caseload for January 2017

     The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in January showed a drop of 526 cases, representing a decrease of 0.2 per cent compared with that of December 2016, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (February 22).
      
     The total CSSA caseload at the end of January stood at 236 530 (see attached table), with a total of 347 491 recipients.

     Analysed by case nature, unemployment cases and single parent cases registered month-to-month decreases of 1.4 per cent and 0.6 per cent to 14 136 cases and 26 819 cases respectively. Both permanent disability cases and low-earnings cases dropped by 0.5 per cent to 17 520 cases and 5 203 cases respectively. Ill health cases showed a slight decrease of 0.2 per cent to 24 131 cases.
      
     Old age cases remained steady at 144 376 cases.
