Family Council holds "Ready for Love" publicity event (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Family Council:

     The Family Council (the Council), the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB) and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) jointly held the "Ready for Love" publicity event this afternoon (February 19) with the aim of helping engaged couples to lay a solid foundation for their marriage as well as promoting family values and positive messages on family formation.

     The Chairman of the Family Council, Professor Daniel Shek, and other guests joined games and shared tips for a happy marriage with the engaged couples and families participating in the event. Professor Shek also talked about the positive impact of a healthy marriage in making a happy family. He said that thorough premarital preparation provides the sound basis for a successful marriage and a successful marriage forms the cornerstone of a harmonious family.

     In addition to a radio programme, the Council and the HAB have also produced a premarital family education package comprising a short drama series of nine episodes and a booklet. It is hoped the package will give engaged couples a comprehensive premarital family education, with tips for a better understanding of marital life, adapting to new roles, getting along with new family members and maintaining good relationships, in order to help engaged couples transit from single life to marital life and lay the foundation of a successful marriage. The videos will be broadcast on the Council's Happy Family Info Hub (www.familycouncil.gov.hk) and at Integrated Family Service Centres, Community Centres under the 18 District Offices and on social media and public transportation.

     The "Ready for Love" publicity event is a highlight of the "Love Your Family More" Campaign with an aim to promote family core values and remind family members to remain optimistic in adversity.

     Members of the public are welcome to visit the Council's Happy Family Info Hub (www.familycouncil.gov.hk) for details of the publicity event and the premarital family education package.
