Following are the remarks by the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, at the Spring Reception at Government House this afternoon (February 8):

Friends and Government colleagues,

My wife Regina and I warmly welcome you all to Government House. I'm not going to make a speech so please relax. Basically two purposes, one is to say "Kung Hei Fat Choy" to those of you who are in the business sector. I wish you prosperity, happiness and good health in the coming year. Secondly - which is equally important - is to thank you for your support and guidance in the past year, particularly to those of you who serve on the various boards, corporations and committees. And most of you do it without compensation for the Government and through the Government for the community as a whole. So simple words - great gratitude on our part. We wish you again a great Lunar New Year, happiness, prosperity and thank you.
