Speech by FS at 2017 International Chinese New Year Night Parade (with photos/video)
************************************************************************************
Following is the speech by the Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan, at the 2017 Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui tonight (January 28):

Ladies and gentlemen,

     Good evening.

And what an evening it is - the very first of the Chinese New Year. The Year of the Rooster!

We certainly have plenty to crow about tonight.

For over two decades, the International Chinese New Year Night Parade has been one of Hong Kong's most popular events - and a highlight of the Chinese New Year celebrations around the world.

This year, it is bigger and better than ever. Some 3 000 local and international performers pack tonight's parade - the largest line-up of performances in the event's 22-year history. And that, ladies and gentlemen, adds up to an unforgettable evening.

It is definitely a special year for Hong Kong. Yes, 2017 is the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. And we are celebrating it with a great variety of events throughout the year. I look forward to seeing you all in these spectacular events soon.

Many thanks to the Hong Kong Tourism Board for once again organising a memorable International Chinese New Year Night Parade.

I know that you will enjoy every magnificent moment of it. Of all that Hong Kong can offer you. Tonight - and every day and night in the Year of the Rooster.

Thank you. And Kung Hei Fat Choi!
