Fatal traffic accident in Lantau North

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Lantau North today (January 27) in which a 32-year-old man died.

     At about 1.55am, a taxi driven by a 54-year-old man and a private car driven by the 32-year-old man was travelling in sequence along North Lantau Highway towards Kowloon. When reaching near MTR Sunny Bay Station, the taxi reportedly stopped due to failure. The private car failed to brake, collided with the taxi and side turned.

     The private car driver was trapped inside the compartment and rescued by firemen. Sustaining serious head injuries, the driver was rushed to Yan Chai Hospital in unconscious state and was certified dead at 2.39am. The 54-year-old male taxi driver and two female taxi passengers, aged 27 and 34 respectively, were sent to Princess Margaret Hospital in conscious state.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South is underway.
