***************************************************************

With Lunar New Year approaching, members of the Housing Department Volunteers Corps (Volunteers Corps) visited about 70 elderly singletons or elderly couples living at Mei Lam Estate, Sha Tin, distributing fai chun and festive rice cakes to them to express their care.

The Chairman of the Volunteers Corps and Assistant Director (Legal Service) of Housing Department, Mrs Kitty Yan, said today (January 23), "Under the guidance of tutors, we made festive rice cakes in the shape of golden carp last Saturday morning (January 21) and distributed them to elderly tenants in the afternoon.

"About 15 members of the Volunteers Corps visited elderly tenants living at Mei Lam Estate. Apart from distributing to the elderly a lucky bag with handmade fai chuns and festive rice cakes, the volunteers chatted with them to understand their needs. We wish that they will feel our care."

The Volunteers Corps, which was established over 19 years ago, cares about elderly tenants residing in public rental housing. Members of the Volunteers Corps usually visit the elderly or organise celebratory activities for them during major festivals.
