Territory-wide operation to combat illegal parking
**************************************************

The Police will conduct a one-week territory-wide operation starting from tomorrow (January 13) to January 19 to combat illegal parking and offences which obstruct traffic flow.

Stringent enforcement action will be taken during the operation.  The Police will issue fixed penalty tickets to drivers in relation to illegal parking, particularly double parking, illegal loading, unloading, picking-up, alighting activities and stopping or waiting at restricted zones.

A Police spokesman said that the Police would issue multiple tickets and take summons action against drivers who blatantly contravened illegal parking regulations, obstructed traffic flow or caused danger to other road users. Illegally parked vehicles would be towed away if necessary.

Police figures showed that over 1.6 million fixed penalty tickets against illegal parking and congestion-related offences were issued in 2016, an increase of 20 per cent compared with 2015.

The Police will continue to strengthen publicity and education for road users in complying with traffic regulations, with a view to minimising traffic accidents and maintaining smooth traffic flow.
