The Government announced today (January 12) appointments to the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) and the five committees under the FSDC. All appointments will take effect from January 17, 2017 to January 16, 2019, both dates inclusive.
 
     The Chief Executive has re-appointed Mrs Laura M Cha (Chairman) and 18 incumbent members, and also appointed four new members to the FSDC. Among these 23 FSDC members, 21 will also serve as committee members.
 
     The Chief Executive has also appointed another 37 members to serve on the five committees, 24 of whom are re-appointed while 13 are new members.
 
     The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, said, "Under the leadership of the Chairman, Mrs Laura M Cha, the FSDC has made great achievements in conducting research and carrying out promotional activities and human capital initiatives for the betterment of the financial services industry. The new appointees are all experienced practitioners with expertise in different segments of the financial services industry. I am confident that they will make valuable contributions to the FSDC in accomplishing its goals."
 
     Professor Chan also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing members, namely Professor David C Donald, Mr Brian Fung, Mr E Michael Fung, Mr George Hongchoy, Mr Gary Hwa, Ms Lau Ka-shi, Mr Anton Liu Tingan, Mrs Bethy Tam Ho Kum-man, Ms Wang Hsueh-ming, Mr Harold T Wong and Mr Derek Yung Kai-ming, for their input to the work of the FSDC.
 
     The FSDC was established in 2013 by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government as a high-level, cross-sectoral advisory body to engage the industry in formulating proposals to promote the further development of Hong Kong’s financial services industry and to map out the strategic direction for development. The FSDC has set up five committees, namely the Policy Research Committee; the Mainland Opportunities Committee; the New Business Committee; the Market Development Committee and the Human Capital Committee.
