Free tickets for outreach performance of Sha Tin District Oral History Theatre Project to be distributed from today
******************************************************************************************
     More than 20 elderly participants of the "Community Oral History Theatre Project - Sha Tin District" will make their debut performance in the drama "The 4 Generations of Sha Tin" and attend a sharing session at 3pm on February 11 (Saturday) at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum Theatre. They will share their own precious stories onstage. Free admission tickets are being distributed from today (January 11) on a first-come, first-served basis.

     Sha Tin was once named "Gik Yuen", in reference to its uncultivated fields overgrown with thistles and thorns in the past. It then developed into a place for countryside tours during the holidays. To the east of the railroad was the coastline and Yuen Chau Kok was an islet in the middle of Tide Cove (Sha Tin Hoi). Many years later, Sha Tin has developed into a satellite city which is now home for approximately 630,000 inhabitants. The former Tide Cove was drained and straightened to become the present Shing Mun River which extends to Ma On Shan.

     The drama "The 4 Generations of Sha Tin" (in Cantonese) tells of the changes and development of Sha Tin District in the past few decades. Ko Tin-lung is the artistic director and Crystal Wong is the scriptwriter, director and drama tutor.

     Free tickets (free seating) for the performance are available at the following locations with a maximum of four tickets per person:

* Ma On Shan Neighbourhood Elderly Centre, the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council (G/F, Lee On Community Services Complex, 23 Sha On Street, Ma On Shan);

     The "Community Oral History Theatre Project - Sha Tin District" was launched in 2015 and is co-organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), Chung Ying Theatre Company, the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council and the Hong Kong Society for the Aged. Through organising a series of workshops, the project has gathered the personal experiences and valuable recollections of the elderly from Sha Tin District. Scripts have been written with the oral information collected, providing an opportunity for the elderly to tell their stories onstage.
