Regional Traffic Day of Hong Kong Island

     Police officers issued a total of 1,136 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 65 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (January 10).

     The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 303 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western Districts were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.

     A total of 967 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 169 for other traffic offences.

     Besides, three pedestrians and four drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

     Statistics revealed that a total of 2,920 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in 2016, of which 841 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 41.3 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
