The following is issued on behalf of the Financial Services Development Council:

The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, met with the Chairman of the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC), Mrs Laura M Cha, and council members today (January 6) to exchange views on the development of Hong Kong's financial services industry. The meeting was followed by a lunch at Government House for members of the FSDC and its five committees.

Mr Leung said he appreciated the efforts made by the members on their in-depth research and practical analysis in various sectors of the financial services industry. He also commended the FSDC for its pivotal role in advising the Government, with an objective of strengthening Hong Kong as a leading international financial centre under the changing economic landscape.

Since its establishment in 2013, the FSDC has published 26 substantive reports, including seven published in 2016. The FSDC also organised and participated in a series of marketing and educational forums benefiting the industry and university students. Mr Leung said he envisaged that the FSDC would continue to help formulate initiatives and policy recommendations to enhance the further development of Hong Kong's financial services industry, bearing in mind the city's role as a "super-connector" between the Mainland and other parts of the world.

About the FSDC

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government established the FSDC in 2013 as a high-level, cross-sectoral advisory body to engage the industry in formulating proposals to promote the further development of Hong Kong's financial services industry and to map out the strategic direction for development.

The FSDC set up five committees, namely the Policy Research Committee, the Mainland Opportunities Committee, the New Business Committee, the Market Development Committee and the Human Capital Committee, as the five streams of its work.

Reports published by the FSDC can be downloaded from the FSDC website: www.fsdc.org.hk.
