Correctional Services Department combats illicit activities

In recent months, Stanley Prison has taken a series of operations against illicit activities including disciplinary offences like unauthorised laundering of the uniform of persons in custody. In today’s operation, three male persons in custody were placed on disciplinary report for breaching prison discipline under the above circumstances.
At 6.30pm today, a total of 138 male persons in custody from the Leather-products (shoe-making) workshop and the Carpentry workshop staged a hunger strike and refused to leave the dining hall, demanding the institutional management to rescind any disciplinary action against the aforementioned three male persons in custody. Following assessment and detailed planning, the CSD deployed reinforcements to Stanley Prison, including Regional Response Team, support teams and Dog Unit. After warning, all the persons in custody orderly left the dining hall in batches, and Correctional officers completed the lockup procedure at 9.15pm.
Regarding the incident, there are two persons in custody suspected of inciting fellow persons in custody to engage in mass indiscipline. They are now being removed from association and under investigation. The present atmosphere at Stanley Prison is stable. The CSD will continue to closely monitor the development.
In order to assist persons in custody to rehabilitate in a safe and orderly environment, the CSD spares no effort in combating illicit activities of all kinds in its institutions.
Stanley Prison is a maximum security prison for the detention of male adult persons in custody, including those who have committed serious offences.
