***********************************************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The spokesperson for Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH) made the following announcement today (January 4) regarding a staff confirmed with chickenpox:

A Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in the Labour Ward of TMH had presented with symptoms of rash and vesicles since January 1. She was confirmed the diagnosis of chickenpox after attending the Accident & Emergency Department consultation the next day.

After being notified of the case, the TMH Infection Control Team had started to conduct investigation and arrange contact tracing of the contacts during the PCA's duty time in accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines. The hospital had started to inform the 13 persons (two staff members and 11 patients/visitors) who had neither received chickenpox vaccines in the past nor had immunity against chickenpox infection, to arrange clinical assessment to see if further treatment was required.

The concerned PCA has been on sick leave since yesterday (January 3). The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection.
