Fatal traffic accident in Hung Hom

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Hung Hom this afternoon (January 4) in which a 78-year-old man died.

     At about 12.30pm, a taxi driven by the 78-year-old man was travelling along Gillies Avenue South towards Kwun Tong. When approaching near Baker Street, it reportedly rammed into a bus stop sign and collided with a stationary medium goods vehicle (MGV).

     The taxi driver was trapped inside the compartment and rescued by firemen. Sustaining injuries to his head and hand, the taxi driver was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in unconscious state where he was certified dead at 12.48pm. The 32-year-old male MGV driver was sent to QEH in conscious state.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon West is underway.
