Company fined for default of award of Labour Tribunal
*****************************************************
Windax Tourist Limited was prosecuted by the Labour Department for default of awarded sum of the Labour Tribunal and was fined $80,000 at the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (January 3). The company was also ordered to clear the outstanding amount of about $70,000 to an employee via the court.

The company failed to comply with the Employment Ordinance to pay an employee the awarded sum of about $70,000 within 14 days after the specified payment date of the Labour Tribunal award.

"The judgment will disseminate a strong message to all employers that they have to pay the awarded sums according to the terms of the awards issued by the Labour Tribunal or the Minor Employment Claims Adjudication Board," a spokesman for the Labour Department said. "The Labour Department will not tolerate these offences and will spare no effort in enforcing the law and safeguarding employees' statutory rights," the spokesman added.
