Public invited to participate in "Kwai Tsing Dementia Caring Week - Be smart and Agile"

     ​Organised by Kwai Tsing District Office and Kwai Chung Hospital and initiated by St James' Settlement, a series of activities will be held under the "Kwai Tsing Dementia Caring Week - Be smart and Agile" starting from Saturday (December 10) to increase public understanding of dementia. Admission is free and members of the public are invited to join in.
      
     The launch ceremony for Caring Week will be held at Kwai Chung Estate Central Plaza from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday. Under the themes "Be Smart" and "Be Agile", the activities include brain-empowering exercises, seminars, health checks, self-service interactive and cognitive assessment as well as a training and nostalgic songs performance, aimed at drawing public attention to dementia and building a friendly community for persons with dementia. Participants will also be presented with specially designed souvenirs on a first-come, first-served basis.
      
     The Brain Health Talk, another signature event of the Caring Week, will be held at Kwai Fong Community Hall from 2.30pm to 4pm on December 17 (Saturday). The Director of Therese Pei Fong Chow Research Centre for Prevention of Dementia of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Vincent Mok, and the Chairman of the Charles K Kao Foundation for Alzheimer's Disease, Mrs Kao May Wan Gwen, are the guest speakers, and they will share with participants the causes of dementia and preventive measures, as well as talking about their experience of caring for patients with cognitive problems. The talk will be conducted in Cantonese. Interested parties are invited to enroll by telephone on a first-come, first-served basis.      Caring Week is the first of a batch of highlight programmes to launch the Kwai Tsing District-led Actions Scheme: Help Prepare the Community to Tackle Surge in Dementia Population. Community education will be implemented, followed by support for patients and their family members.
