Hong Kong Customs combats unfair trade practices at dispensary

Customs officers conducted a test-buy operation at a dispensary in Tsim Sha Tsui this afternoon. A female director was suspected to have applied false trade descriptions for three brands of medicine by stating they were other brands of proprietary medicines. Customs officers arrested the 34-year-old woman. Investigation is ongoing and the arrested woman has been released on bail pending further investigation.
Customs reminded traders to comply with the requirements of the TDO and consumers to purchase products from reputable shops.
Under the TDO, any person who in the course of any trade or business applies a false trade description to any goods commits an offence. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of $500,000 and imprisonment for five years.
