Territory-wide operation to target illegal parking
**************************************************

Police yesterday (November 28) concluded a six-day territory-wide operation targeting illegal parking and offences which obstruct traffic flow.

During the operation, 31,823 fixed penalty tickets (FPTs) were issued and 40 vehicles were towed away.

A Police spokesman said that the operation targeted undesirable driving behaviour which might cause accidents and impede traffic flow, with a view to improving road users’ driving attitude, preventing traffic accidents and maintaining smooth traffic flow.

This was the fourth territory-wide anti-illegal parking operation in 2016. A total of 147,048 FPTs were issued and 54 vehicles were towed away during the four operations. In the first nine months of 2016, 1,165,779 FPTs were issued, up 21 per cent from 967,148 FPTs in the corresponding period in 2015.

Police will continue to take stringent enforcement actions targeting illegal parking that causes serious obstruction throughout the territory. FPTs will be issued without prior warning and vehicles causing serious obstruction or danger to other road users will be towed away.  Owners of towed vehicles are required to claim the vehicle at the police vehicle pound and pay a towing fee and storage charge.

He reminded drivers to drive safely, be considerate and respect the rights of other road users.

The Police will continue to enhance publicity and education in order to raise public awareness of road safety. For more road safety information, please visit the Police website: www.police.gov.hk/ppp_en/05_traffic_matters/enforcement.html.
