S for S visits London on crime and refugee matters (with photos)

     The Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, continued his visit to London today (November 29, London time).
 
     Upon his arrival in London yesterday, Mr Lai called on the Minister of State for Security of the Home Office, Mr Ben Wallace. They exchanged views on areas of common concern such as counter-terrorism, money laundering and cyber security. Mr Lai briefed Mr Wallace on the latest law and order situations in Hong Kong.
 
     Mr Lai also held a meeting with the Chief Executive of the Legal Aid Agency, Mr Shaun McNally, at which he was briefed on the legal assistance provided to asylum seekers.
 
     In the afternoon, Mr Lai met with Deputy Director in UK Visas and Immigration, Mr Sean Palmer, and Deputy Director in Immigration and Borders, Ms Philippa Rouse, both of the Home Office, to discuss matters on asylum and immigration screening policies.
 
     Today, Mr Lai visited the Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber) where he was briefed by the President of the Upper Tribunal, Mr Justice Bernard McCloskey, on its work, including handling appeals against decisions relating to visa applications, asylum applications and the right to enter or stay in the United Kingdom.
 
     Afterwards, Mr Lai paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the United Kingdom, Mr Liu Xiaoming.
 
     Mr Lai will leave for Geneva, Switzerland this evening, to continue his visit.
