New Cantonese Opera Play Scriptwriting Competition Award Presentation Ceremony held today (with photo)

     The Award Presentation Ceremony of the New Cantonese Opera Play Scriptwriting Competition was held today (November 27) at the Piazza of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

     The competition was organised by the Cantonese Opera Development Fund under the purview of the Home Affairs Bureau. It aimed to further support the creation of new Cantonese opera plays and nurture budding playwrights, so as to expand the number of quality scripts that are suitable for performances.

     There was a great variety of topics in the entries with distinctive features. After two rounds of assessment by the adjudication panel, the winners of the Best Script Award and Outstanding Script Award were chosen. The awardees are listed below:

     The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will stage two performances of "Fiend Battle", the winner of the Best Script Award, at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall on March 22 and 23 next year. Tickets will be available for sale from January 23 next year.

     Through this competition, the Fund hopes to encourage more people who are interested in Cantonese opera to participate in Cantonese opera scriptwriting and to provide more outstanding new plays for the Cantonese opera sector to perform.
