HKETO, Brussels supports Li Han-hsiang retrospective at international film festival in Nantes, France (English only) (with photos)

     The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels (HKETO, Brussels) is supporting the 38th Festival des 3 Continents (Festival of the 3 Continents) taking place in the French city of Nantes from November 22 to 29. This is the second time HKETO, Brussels is supporting the Festival, which screened a series of Hong Kong Kung-fu and cult action movies in 2015.  

     This year the Festival is showing a retrospective of six classic films by one of Hong Kong's finest directors, Li Han-hsiang (1926-1996).  

     Li started his movie career in Hong Kong in 1948, first as an actor, before directing his first independent production and later joining the famous Shaw Brothers studio in 1956. He directed more than 20 films, many of which have become memorable classics.
 
     The programme comprises his films "The Magnificent Concubine", "The Love Eterne", "The Dream of the Red Chamber", "Legends of Lust", "The Emperor and the Minister", and "Enchanting Shadow".
 
     Speaking at a reception hosted by HKETO, Brussels on November 24, before the screening of "The Love Eterne" which was introduced by Hong Kong film critic, Mr Clarence Tsui. The Deputy Representative of HKETO, Brussels, Mr Sam Hui, said that Hong Kong's film entertainment industry has a long history and is one of the most dynamic ones in the world. Hong Kong is small but 59 films were released in the city last year. Hong Kong is not only good at making movies, its unique cityscape also provides stunning settings for foreign productions.

     Founded in 1979, the Festival des 3 Continents screens feature films, both fiction and documentaries from Asia, Africa and Latin America. The festival is credited with revealing major directors like Wong Kar-wai and Satyajit Ray to the French public and attracts an audience of 26 000 people.
