Hong Kong Science Museum's new exhibition offers virtual trip to Mars (with photos)
***********************************************************************************
A special new exhibition entitled "Mars" will be launched tomorrow (November 11) at the Hong Kong Science Museum. The exhibition examines the possibility of Mars exploration by humans and offers visitors the breathtaking experience of a "trip" to Mars using virtual reality technology.

The exhibition is divided into three zones, namely "Initiation", "Preparation" and "Arrival", which introduce the challenges that would be faced by humans if they lived on Mars. The "Initiation" zone reveals the knowledge and technology that have made a journey to Mars possible through interactive exhibits and audiovisual programmes. The "Preparation" zone introduces scientific facts about Mars, including landscape images of the Mars environment and a panel set simulating the accommodation unit where astronauts would live during their journey to Mars. It also reveals how astronauts would adapt to the Mars environment when they live there. Using virtual reality technology, the "Arrival" zone allows visitors to experience the feeling of hurtling through space, landing on the red planet and taking their first step in the alien environment.

To complement the exhibition, the Science Museum will screen a documentary entitled "Mars – Novo Mundo" on November 16, which reveals the story of mankind's thrilling quest to colonise Mars and how the Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, often known as SpaceX, can help humans reach Mars using pioneering technology.

The "Mars" exhibition is jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and National Geographic Channel, and is designed and produced by Globe Creative Limited. It will run from November 11 to January 11 next year. The Hong Kong Science Museum is located at 2 Science Museum Road, Tsim Sha Tsui.
